Reflecting on my initial publication on this topic in 2013 ( ), it is impressive to realize that we have sufficiently advanced this technology such that crystalline mirrors with an area > 100x larger can now be reliably produced. This manuscript stems from a workshop held at American University (Washington DC) in August 2022 and covers the state-of-the-art in (large-area) substrate-transferred crystalline coatings, including contributions from members of the gravitational wave and precision metrology communities.
Our invited Perspectives article on “Substrate-transferred GaAs/AlGaAs crystalline coatings for gravitational-wave detectors” was published today in Applied Physics Letters: - The paper is open access and thus freely accessible from that link.
